According to Peru Travel, Peru means nature and is one of the ten greatest biodiversity and natural resources countries. With more than 158 protected natural areas, it has 84 of the 117 life zones around the world. Our country is among the ten favorite destinations for group travel, being the only Latin American county considered in this list. Travelling to Peru is to awaken pending dreams, connect with oneself, and explore five thousand year’s living history.
Imagine yourself at the beach, surfing with the Caballitos de Totora as surfing boards and enjoying the sunset at the oasis in the middle of the dunes or maybe, in the highlands, with the sound of quenas (peruvian flutes) in the air, breathing the pure air of the Andes and contemplate the harmony of the human being with nature in Machu Picchu or maybe, in the jungle where the Amazonas will welcome you with the famous pink dolphins and invites you to break free.
AC Tours offers special packages to any of these great destinations.
In Quechua, Cusco means ‘navel of the world’, since it was the capital of the Inca empire and the starting point of an extraordinary network of 23,000 KM of roads and communications of Inca territory. Its unique architecture, in which European styles contrast with the solid and grand Inca foundations, heightens the beauty of a city which harbors a dazzling past and which, despite the strong Spanish influence, still maintains an undeniably Andean atmosphere.
Whoever visits Peru and is a nature lover must not skip visiting the National Reserve of Tambopata located at only 30 minutes by air from Cusco. It has world-records of birds and butterflies and it is well known as one of the areas with more biodiversity in the planet. Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places to visit in Tambopata is the beautiful Sandoval Lake where it is very common to watch river otters fishing or playing.
Located south of Lima and over the slopes of Misti Volcano, Arequipa is one of the most beautiful cities in Peru. It is known as the "white city" because many of its houses are built with "sillar", a volcanic white stone, typical of the region. It has a great variety of old houses and churches, sticking out the Santa Catalina Convent built in 1600. The Colca Canyon, located close to the city, is considered one of the deepest in the world. It has a beautiful and impressive landscape.
Located in the southern extreme of the country, and next to Bolivia, are Puno and the Titicaca Lake, well-known as the highest navigable lake in the world. According to the Inca mythology, from its deep waters emmerged the son and daughter of the Sun God, Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, who founded the Inca Empire. In the lake you can find the famous islands of totora (reed), where the Uros indians live. If you sail further, you find the Taquile island where its communities keep their ancestral customs and way of life.
TRUJILLO & CHICLAYO
These cities, located in the northern coast of the country, were places where advanced pre-Inca cultures developed. Moche and Chimu cultures are higlights of the area due to its great advances in ceramics, agriculture and architecture. The North offers other attractions such as museums and archaeological sites such as Chan Chan and Huaca of the Sun and Moon, as well as elegant Paso horses and beautiful beaches where fishermen use small boats called "totora horses" as their ancestors did from memorials times.
